The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Pharmacy has published a new report on The Future of Community Pharmacy in England.
Responding to the report, Chris Askew, Interim Chief Executive of the GPhC, said:
“As the APPG on Pharmacy’s report sets out, pharmacy is facing significant challenges that impact its short- and long-term sustainability. We support the recommendations in the report to help tackle these challenges.
“The report highlights the importance of having a regulatory framework that supports innovation. As the pharmacy regulator, we are committed to making sure we provide a clear regulatory framework that empowers the pharmacy workforce to provide trusted, safe and effective patient care and enables innovation, as set out in our Strategic Plan 2025-30.”
Gisela Abbam, Chair of the GPhC, said:
“The APPG’s report sets out important recommendations to help put pharmacy on a resilient and sustainable footing for the future, and to enable pharmacy to play its part in delivering the Government’s 10-year plan to improve the health of people across England.
“We welcome the steps the Government has taken so far to support pharmacy, and we hope the ongoing support and investment needed to enable the pharmacy workforce to fulfil their increasing roles will be reflected in the upcoming workforce plan. As the pharmacy regulator, we believe that the benefits to patient care and wellbeing from doing this will be significant. It will also support the wellbeing of the pharmacy professions and empower them to fulfil their roles. We look forward to participating in continued discussions with the Government, APPG and other stakeholders about how together we can unlock the full potential of community pharmacy.”
